What happens at your first appointment?
A physiotherapy assessment will always include:
1. Conversation and goal setting: We’ll talk about your concerns, symptoms, and what you’d like to get back to—work, sport, training, or just daily life without pain.
2. Medical and injury history: We’ll review your relevant health history, past injuries, imaging, and any treatments you’ve already tried.
3. Movement and function assessment: This includes looking at your range of motion, strength, control, and how you move during tasks that matter to you (lifting, running, sitting, etc.).
4. Clear explanation and education: You’ll get a straightforward explanation of your likely diagnosis and what’s driving your symptoms, plus what you can do to support your recovery.
5. Initial treatment: When appropriate, we’ll begin treatment in your first session. This might include hands-on techniques, dry needling/IMS, targeted exercises, or strategies to modify activity and load.
6. Plan going forward: Together, we’ll discuss how often you may benefit from treatment, what to work on between sessions, and realistic timelines for progress.
What your treatments may include:
Treatments are always individualized, but may include:
• Exercise-based rehab to build strength, mobility, and control
• Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization or soft tissue work
• Functional Dry Needling / IMS when appropriate - learn more about Dry Needling / IMS here
• Education on pain, load management, and pacing
• Return-to-sport or return-to-activity planning
Can’t make it into the clinic? We offer virtual physiotherapy appointments for Saskatchewan residents.
Who this approach is for:
This style of physiotherapy is a good fit if you:
• Prefer 1-on-1 care and clear explanations
• Want to understand your pain instead of guessing
• Value strength and mobility training
• Want a blend of hands-on treatment and active exercise
• Are motivated to take an active role in your recovery
• Have tried “rest and wait” or generic stretches/exercises and aren’t seeing progress
• You feel hypermobile or “bendy” and want more strength and control, not just more stretching
